If you have read anything I have posted so far, you know that this blog was born out of a near-fatal car accident that happened more than two years ago. In that accident, there was a brief stretch of time between the car catching fire and a heroic soldier pulling me out through the passenger side before my seat exploded. That stretch was about 25 seconds. That was all the time between life and death for me. After a long season of rehab and reflection, I realized I had not been living fully in the moment. The truth is, the next 25 seconds are just about all we really have. Sure, we make plans for later in the day, the week, the month, or the year, but the reality is that we may not make it there. The harsher reality is that someday, we won’t.
My point is not to let the world and the uncertainty of your future dictate how you live. My point is to live, and to be grateful. What I have learned is this: planning is good, and planning is needed, but if you can keep your focus on the next 25 seconds and what you are called to do in that time, you may find yourself living a more meaningful life. If you planned to go to the doctor later and you are thinking about it, but then the thought of reaching out to a friend or taking a moment to play with your kids crosses your mind, do it. You have the time right now. Do not let time that has not been promised to you pass by, and do not let it dictate your why or your now. Live life meaningfully, my friends… 25 seconds at a time.
I hope this blog gave you at least one of those 25-second moments to pause, breathe, and remember what matters. Have a great week.
