On a recent trip to Colorado Springs, my wife and I stayed at our favorite hotel. This was our third time staying there in the past two years and we love it for many reasons but perhaps the most memorable is the valet attendant named Jason.
For 14 years he has been the first interaction thousands of guests have when they arrive. Not the front desk clerk, not the manager, Jason.
Every time we arrive we are greeted with a smile, a kind word and an engaging conversation where he listens and makes you feel cared for.
Why am I sharing this? Because as a valet you are asked to run and get cars for guests quickly and it is a very high stress job because while service is your mission the speed at which you execute with is held above all else…sound familiar?
We live in a fast-paced world where we are constantly told to get things done with speed and with a more transactional mindset rather than an authentic relational one. Not Jason.
Jason was my reminder and today is yours, that you ultimately control the pace of your life, you have the power to slow down if you choose and build a life of authenticity and deep relationships.
Slow down, take 30 extra seconds to have a conversation with someone and listen. You never know what you may learn.
The hotel is the Mining Exchange in downtown Colorado Springs. The whole team is wonderful, the hotel is beautiful and we won’t stay anywhere else when we visit.
Thank you Jason for the example you set for all of us.
