Catchy title, no?
Today’s Gospel (Luke 12:13–21) tells a story we don’t want to admit is about us.
A man gets rich, so rich he runs out of room to store it all.
So he makes plans. Bigger barns. More security and a future he can control.
Who among us hasn’t sought that?
He says to himself:“You have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry.”
And God says:
“You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you.”
The man built his future on the wrong foundation.
Not because planning is wrong or money is evil.
But because he forgot what actually matters. Sound familiar?
Jesus finishes with a warning:
“Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”
Let’s be honest,this parable isn’t just about wealth.
It’s about what we put our hope in, about whether we’re building bigger barns or a life rooted in purpose.
You can build a secure future and still miss the point. You can win the game and still lose your soul.
So today I’m asking:
Am I chasing more, or am I chasing meaning?
Am I building barns…or becoming rich in what matters to God?
